How to make this Slow Cooker Birria Ramen

  1. Full recipe below.
  2. To your slow cooker add the stew beef, onion, garlic, birria seasoning packet and water.
  3. Slow cook on low for  4-6 hours until the stew beef is tender. 
  4. 20 minutes before serving add the ramen and cover and cook until the ramen is tender.
  5. Serve in bowl and top with your favorite toppings. 
  6. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

Ingredients you need

  • Stew beef-  I like to use the stew beef because it is already in little pieces and cooks faster but you can also use a whole chuck roast if you like for your birria meat. 
  • Onion-  I like to use a sweet onion, but you can use a yellow onion or red onion too.
  • Garlic- Use any garlic you have on hand, fresh or jarred.
  • Envelope birria seasoning packet-  I find this right at my grocery store.  I like to use it because it has all the seasonings I need all together.  You can also use your favorite birria recipe if you like.
  • Water or beef stock- Either of these will work here, the beef stock does add more flavor to the dish. 
  • Box of ramen noodles-  I find a box of ramen right at the grocery store but you can also use the little instant ramen noodles packets just discard the seasoning.
  • Toppings, soft-boiled eggs, cilantro, onion, lime, jalapenos.

My favorite slow cooker for this slow cooker ramen noodles is this Hamilton Beach one.

Can I use any meat?

While technically birria is usually beef, this recipe will work pork or chicken thighs as well.

Can I add other vegetables?

There are many veggies that would be great in this recipe.  Broccoli, bell peppers, onions, carrots, bok choy, green bell pepper or even snow peas would also be fabulous in this.  You could even do a little thinly sliced cabbage.

What can I top this with?

I like to top it with fresh cilantro, lime, jalapenos and red onion but you can top it with your favorites!  Green onions, sesame seeds, sriracha anything you like!

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds stew beef
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 (1 ounce) envelope birria seasoning packet
  • 4 cups water or beef stock
  • 10.75 ounce box ramen noodles
  • Toppings, soft boiled egg, cilantro, onion, lime, jalapeno

Instructions

  1. To your slow cooker add the stew beef, onion, garlic, birria seasoning packet and water.
  1. Slow cook on low for  4-6 hours until the stew beef is tender. 
  2. 20 minutes before serving add the ramen and cover and cook until the ramen is tender.
  3. Serve in bowl and top with your favorite toppings.

Notes

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • You can add sriracha for spice.
  • If you cant find a box of ramen noodles you can use the ramen noodles from the little packs, 3 packs will be enough.
