Yes, you could use any boneless chicken in this recipe, just cut it into bite-size pieces.  Boneless thighs are fabulous in this recipe!

I love this over mashed potatoes or white rice but is also great over fried rice or lo mein noodles.  I like to serve it with some broccoli or green beans.

Can I make this spicy?

This is a sweet and savory dish but you can certainly add some spice with a little red pepper flakes, jalapeno or sriracha.  

 

Ingredients used for this Slow Cooker Hawaiian Chicken

  • Chicken-diced into bite size pieces.  You can use tenderloins, boneless skinless chicken breasts or chicken thighs.
  • Cornstarch- this gives the chicken it’s crunchy exterior.
  • Oil- for a quick fry of the chicken.
  • BBQ Sauce- Use your favorite barbecue sauce. I like sweet baby ray’s bbq sauce.
  • Brown sugar- This is what makes the flavorful sauce sticky and glazy.
  • Pineapple Juice- This also adds sweetness and a tropical tang to this delicious chicken.
  • Scallions for garnish- Green onions add such a great pop of flavor!

How to make this Slow Cooker Hawaiian BBQ Chicken

  1. In a mixing bowl combine your eggs and cornstarch.
  2. Coat your chicken pieces in cornstarch egg mixture.
  3. Heat up the oil in a large skillet over medium high heat.
  4. Brown the chicken quickly in the pan. We are not looking to cook the chicken through, just get a little color on each side.
  5. Place the browned chicken in the slow cooker.
  6. In a mixing bowl combine bbq sauce, pineapple juice and brown sugar.
  7. Pour the sauce over the chicken.
  8. Stir everything to combine.
  9. Cover and cook on LOW for 3-4 hours. Check and stir half way through. Slow cookers cook differently so make sure to stir and make sure your slow cooker isn’t running too hot and burning the sauce.
  10. Garnish with scallions.
  11. Serve this easy hawaiian chicken over rice!
  12. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.

  • 1-1 1/2 pounds chicken tenderloins, cut into bite size pieces
  • ⅓ cup cornstarch
