Yes, you can use any ground protein you like.  Ground chicken, ground turkey or ground pork will also work in this.

What should I serve this with?

Of course for a real Arbys experience serve these with curly fries and mozzarella sticks. I love these with a salad, sweet potato fries or some mac and cheese as a side dish but it is also great served with these Slow Cooker Cowboy Beans.

Can I make this spicy?

You can add red pepper flakes, jalapenos, green chiles or even sriracha to give this a kick. You can also add some of their horsey sauce for a little bite.

Ingredients used

  • Pound of ground beef – I like to use a lean ground beef in this recipe.
  • Minced dried onion – I like to add a little of this for a pop of onion flavor but you can use fresh or frozen.  You can even use onion powder.
  • Worcestershire sauce – Adds depth and savoriness to the dish.
  • Brown sugar – You always need a little sweet in your sloppy joe mix.  This also helps thicken the sloppy joe mixture.
  • Arbys Sauce-  You can get this tangy arby’s sauce right at the grocery store now!  This is the main ingredient for this sloppy joe recipe. If you cannot find it you can use french dressing but it won’t taste exactly the same.
  • Cheese Sauce – You can use any cheese sauce you like, I find Rico’s Cheddar Cheese Sauce in a can tastes the most similar.  You can also just use sliced sharp cheddar cheese if you like. If you can’t find the cheddar sauce you can use Rico’s nacho cheese sauce. Any slice of cheese will work if you can’t find the cheese sauce.  You can even make your own
    homemade cheese sauce.
  • Onion Buns –  Arbys is known for using onion buns for their beef and cheddar sandwiches, I like to use them for these sloppy joes for an authentic taste. You can also just use any hamburger buns you like, I like the sesame seed buns.
