Dr. Pepper, onions, peppers, brown sugar and ketchup make up these delicious sloppy joes and the secret ingredient to making these thick and rich is oatmeal!!

Ingredients you need:

  • Ground beef- I like to use lean but you can use what your family likes.  Even ground turkey would be a good choice.
  • Yellow mustard-  This adds great flavor and a little tang.
  • Worcestershire sauce-  This adds so much flavor.
  • Garlic- minced, you can use fresh garlic cloves or jarred minced garlic.
  • Brown sugar- This gives the sloppy joes their sweetness and helps thicken them up.
  • Chopped onion-  You can use yellow onion, white onion or red onion.
  • Chopped green bell pepper- This adds great flavor and I love the flavor they add.
  • Chopped red bell pepper-  This adds color and flavor and a little sweetness.
  • Quick cooking oatmeal- this helps bind the sloppy joes so they aren’t too sloppy
  • Dr. Pepper Soda-  This is where all the flavor comes from!
  • Ketchup- This provides some body and sauce to the sloppy joes.  I like using this as a base instead of tomato sauce.
  • Buns- I like to use soft brioche buns but use any hamburger buns.
  • Salt and pepper-  To taste
