Ground beef, onions, seasoning and cheese create this hearty sandwich.

There is nothing I love more an easy dinner that I can just throw in the slow cooker that everyone will love and these Chopped Cheese Sandwiches fit the bill.

I love that I can just throw everything in the slow cooker and have a delicious, flavorful dinner that everyone really enjoys.  Whenever I find a dinner that everyone in my house eats I get excited!  And for it to be a crock pot recipe? That’s a double win!

My husband loves cheeseburger subs and that is basically what a chopped cheese is, a cheeseburger chopped up and put on a sub roll.

I love making these in the slow cooker so dinner is ready whenever I need it. The meat gets nice and flavorful all day, then you add melty cheese. The tender, flavorful beef gets piled high in soft, fluffy buns with melted cheese, lettuce and tomato.  So simple but so delicious!

I love that you can customize this to your family’s taste, switch up the flavor of cheese, add a little heat for a kick, you can totally make this chopped cheese sandwich recipe your own.

Can we also take a minute to talk about how budget-friendly this dinner is?  Everyone is feeling the pinch with the grocery bill right now and this dinner only requires a few ingredients and makes plenty for leftovers. Ground beef will always be a cheaper cut of meat. So this is a fabulous dinner when you are trying to stretch your dollar.

Next time you want a family-friendly dinner even the pickiest kids will love throw these ingredients together and let the slow cooker take care of the rest!  This is a great recipe to get your chopped cheese fix.

I promise your whole family will love these Slow Cooker Chopped Cheese Sandwiches.

How should I store this famous chopped cheese sandwich?

I would store the meat in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.  You can rewarm it before making the subs.

What should I serve this with?

I love this served with fries, onion rings or even just potato chips but it is also great with this Bacon Pimento Cheese Potato Salad.

Can I make this spicy?

You can add red pepper flakes, jalapenos or sriracha to give this a kick.

Ingredients used

● Lean ground beef-  I always like to use a lean ground beef so the final dish does not come out too greasy but you can use whichever ground beef you prefer. You can also use hamburger patties.
● Onion-  This cooks all day with the beef to give it great flavor.
● Beef broth- I like to use a low sodium beef broth to keep the sodium in check but use what you have on hand.
● Ketchup- A little bit of ketchup in the mix while it is cooking helps give the meat a great base.
● Worcestershire sauce-  This provides so much savory flavor.
● Black pepper-  Just a bit to add a little flavor.
● Cornstarch-  This helps thicken everything up so it stays together on your bun.
● American cheese slices-  I like to use good old american slices of cheese but you can certainly use any cheese your family prefers.  You could use cheddar cheese or cheez whiz in this too!
● Sub buns-  Nice fluffy, soft hoagie buns are the best for this dish.
● Iceberg lettuce and tomato for topping-  You can also use your preferred toppings you like on your burgers like diced onion.
