Yes, you can use any rib for this recipe, while it is a short rib recipe it can also be used for boneless short ribs or pork ribs.
What should I serve this tender beef with?
I love these over mashed potatoes, egg noodles or white rice but it is also great served with macaroni and cheese or this Bacon Pimento Cheese Potato Salad.
Can I make this spicy?
You can add red pepper flakes or sriracha to give this a kick.
Ingredients used
- Short ribs- I like to get in the bone in ones because they have so much flavor.
- Garlic powder- This gives so much flavor to the outside of the ribs.
- Onion powder- Adds flavor to the rub.
- Black pepper- Adds flavor to the outside of the ribs.
- Carrots- I just peel and cut up whole carrots but you can just use baby carrots to save time.
- Celery stalks- Adds flavor to the broth and ribs.
- Beef stock- Just a bit and I like to use low sodium.
- Garlic cloves- Adds great flavor to the ribs.
- Tomato paste- Helps make a base for the sauce.
How to make these Slow Cooker Short Ribs

- Sprinkle your short ribs with the garlic powder, onion powder and black pepper.
- In a large skillet over medium-high heat sear the ribs on both sides.
- In the bottom of your slow cooker place the carrots and celery.
- Place the seared short ribs on top.
- In a small bowl combine your beef broth, garlic cloves and tomato paste.
- Pour this mixture over the ribs.
- Cover and cook on low 6 hours or high 4 hours or until the meat is tender and falling off the bone.
- Garnish with parsley or green onions.
- Serve!
- Store the leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 4 carrots, peeled and chopped
- 4 celery stalks, chopped
- 2 cups beef broth
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
Instructions
- Sprinkle your short ribs with the garlic powder, onion powder and black pepper.
- In a large skillet over medium high heat sear the ribs on both sides.
- In the bottom of your slow cooker place the carrots and celery.
- Place the ribs on top.
- In a small bowl combine your beef broth, garlic cloves and tomato paste.
- Pour this mixture over the ribs.
- Cover and cook on low 6 hours or high 4 hours or until the meat is tender and falling off the bone.
