Can I add chocolate chips?
Of course!! You can add any flavor chocolate chips you like to the batter.
What else can I top this with?
I love the spooky sprinkles but you can also top it with any Halloween candy you like. I like the Halloween M&Ms.
Do I have to marble the batter?
Nope! Feel free to just dye your cookie batter one color if you do not feel like to marbling it
Can I freeze this?
Yes, just make sure to wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and it should be good for up to 3 months. Just thaw and serve! You can also cut it into slices, freeze them on a tray and then wrap them in plastic wrap and place in an freezer bag.
Ingredients used
- Butter – You can use either salted or unsalted, both will work fine.
- Sugar – Of course you need sugar for sugar cookie bars.
- Cream cheese – This makes the bars rich and chewy.
- Eggs – Just regular large eggs work great!
- Vanilla extract – This provides that sugar cookie flavor.
- Almond extract – This adds a little something extra to the flavor.
- Baking powder – This helps make the cookies rise a little
- Flour – All purpose flour is all you need for these bars.
- Green and orange food coloring – You can use any Halloween colors you like.
Frosting
- Butter – Again you can use unsalted or salted butter.
- Powdered sugar – This provides the base for this fluffy frosting.
- Vanilla extract – This adds the flavor you need.
- Almond extract – Almond extract works great in this recipe!
- Purple food coloring – I like to use purple for the frosting as it makes the sprinkles pop.
- Halloween sprinkles – I get mine from AMAZON.
How to make Halloween Sugar Cookie Bars
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
- In a large mixing bowl using an electric mixer whip together the butter, sugar and cream cheese until fluffy.
- Add in the eggs and vanilla extract and almond extract.
- Next stir in the baking powder.
- Stir in the flour.
- Separate the dough into 2 bowls and using the food coloring dye one bowl green and one bowl orange.
- Line a 9×13 baking dish with parchment paper.
- Place dollops of each dough into the pan and then swirl together.
- Place the dish into the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes until it is just baked through and lightly golden.
- Remove from oven and let cool completely.
- In a medium mixing bowl using an electric mixture combine the butter, powdered sugar, vanilla extract and almond extract and purple food coloring.
- Once that is whipped and fluffy spread it over the cooled cookie bars.
- Sprinkle the Halloween sprinkles all over the top.
- Slice and serve!
