Ingredients used for this cheesy sausage rice
- Smoked Sausage – Use any type of sausage you like, andouille will add a little more spice, regular smoked sausage is what I use. You can also use turkey sausage or chicken sausage or cajun sausage.
- Onion – I like to save a little time and use frozen but you can use what you have on hand.
- Cream Of Chicken Soup – Makes this dish creamy.
- Tomatoes with Green Chiles – I promise this does not add heat, just great flavor to the dish. I just use a can of rotel tomatoes for this.
- Garlic – Adds such a great flavor to this one-pot meal. You could also use garlic powder.
- Rice – Use your favorite rice, I like to use white rice, you can also use brown rice. I like to use long grain rice. It would also be great with jasmine rice.
- Cheddar Cheese- I like to use a sharp cheddar cheese but you c an use any cheese you like.
This One Pot Sausage Rice is easy to make
Just start with a couple of ingredients.
Brown the sausage and onions.
Add your other ingredients to the pot.
A delicious, easy, cheesy one pot meal!
Directions
- In a large skillet over medium high heat add your sausage and onion and cook until sausage is browned and onion is tender.
- To the pan add your cream of chicken soup and fill the can up with water twice and add it to the pan.
- Add your tomatoes, garlic, red pepper flakes and uncooked rice.
- Bring up to a boil.
- Cover and reduce heat to low.
- Cook for 20-25 minutes until the rice is tender.
- Stir in 1 cup of the cheese.
- Top with the remaining cheese and cover until the cheese is melted.
- Garnish with parsley if desired.
- Serve!
- Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
Can I make this dish spicy?
You can add green chiles or jalapeno. You can also use pepperjack cheese. You can also add a little more spice by sprinkling on some red pepper flakes or adding some jalapenos.
Can I use any sausage?
Of course! I use just regular smoked sausage but if you want to make things spicy use a spicy andouille sausage. You can also use turkey sausage or chicken smoked sausage too. Even an italian sausage would work great in this! This would even be great with a ground sausage.
What else can I add to this dish?
You can add lots of different things to this pasta dish. Bell peppers like green pepper or red bell pepper or spinach would be a great addition! Broccoli would also be wonderful in this smoked sausage rice. You can add any of your favorite veggies to this one pan dinner.
