You will not believe how easy it is to make your own goldfish crackers at home! And with only 4 ingredients!

My boys love goldfish crackers, I cannot keep them stocked, the gobble them up!  I mean what kid doesn’t right?  I saw this cute little goldfish cookie cutter on Amazon and knew my boys would love making their own goldfish crackers from scratch.

It is so easy to get them to help with this recipe, you only need four ingredients and the dough comes together super quickly.  They can help roll out the dough, cut out the fish and give them their little eyes and smiles.

These crackers come out so cute and my kids had a blast making them.  I love that I can make these little cracker treats I know exactly the ingredients going into them, flour, butter, cheese and water.  It does not get more simple than that.  I love that you get to control the quality of the ingredients going into these snacks.

I also love that you can totally customize these into your own goldfish crackers.  Add a pinch of cayenne for a little kick of heat, throw in some smoked paprika for a hint of smokiness.  Switch up the cheese and make little pepperjack goldfish.

Once you get the recipe down you can experiment and make any flavor you like.

Now these are not going to replace the storebought little goldfish bags that are so easy to throw into my bag for the kids to snack on when we are out but they are delicious and such a fun snack to make from scratch.

We love making a batch and snacking on them over the weekend.  They last about 3 days in an airtight container so one batch will last a few days.

This is the perfect snack to make on the weekend to prepare for the upcoming week, just whip up a big batch or two and you have enough for an after school snack, to pack in a lunch box and the perfect snack for TV bingeing on the weekend!

So make these Homemade Goldfish Crackers, I promise the whole family will have a great time helping!

RECIPE FAQS

What can I season these with?

I like to add a teaspoon of salt to my mix, but the appeal of this recipe if you can totally leave out the salt if you are watching your salt or maybe making a snack for babies and you don’t want them to have a lot of sodium like in regular snacks.  You can season these up with paprika, cayenne pepper, cumin, ranch seasoning.  These would actually be delicious tossed in a little ranch seasoning.

Can I change the cheese?

Of course!  Now you do want to use a strong flavored cheese like a sharp cheddar so swiss or pepperjack would work great in this recipe.

Does this package/travel well?

Yes!! This is the perfect snack to send in care packages, give as gifts, or take on the road for all those car trips.

INGREDIENTS

  • Flour-  All-purpose flour is all you need here.  I have not tried these with whole wheat flour but I imagine that would work as well.
  • Salted butter- You can use unsalted if you prefer to leave out all salt.
  • Sharp cheddar cheese-  You want to use a sharp cheddar here for the strongest flavor but you can also use pepperjack.
  • Water-  You only need a bit just to bring the dough together.
