Ingredients used

  • Pork- You want to cube up or slice your pork. I like to cut up pork chops but you can slice up
pork tenderloin as well. You can also use chicken for this dish if you prefer.
  • Coleslaw mix- Make sure you are using just the bagged coleslaw mix from the produce section and not premade coleslaw.  I use this because it already has cabbage and carrots already cut up for you.  You can slice up your own head of cabbage or even napa cabbage.
  • Red bell pepper- You can use red, orange, yellow or green peppers.
  • Light soy sauce– Low-sodium soy sauce is best to use.
  • Hoisin sauce- This provides some body and flavor to the sauce.  You could swap this out for oyster sauce if you prefer.
  • Brown sugar- This gives the dish it’s sweetness
  • Sesame oil-  You only need a little of this, but it adds great flavor.  You can also use toasted sesame seed oil.
  • Ketchup-  This adds a little base to the sauce to help the sauce get thick.
  • Garlic- You can use fresh or jarred.
  • Cornstarch- Helps bring the sauce together, thicken it up and makes everything nice and glazy.
  • Scallions- These green onions add such a great flavor and color.
  • Red food coloring-  I use this just to give the pork that red hue like takeout has, but it is totally optional.
  • Lo mein noodles- You can substitute regular spaghetti or linguine noodles or any other
chinese noodles like chow mein noodles you can find.
  • Sesame seeds- Optional but I love the crunch and flavor
