These Sloppy Joe Sliders are such a delicious and easy weeknight dinner.  Flavorful sloppy joe mix is piled on soft sliders buns with cheddar cheese.  These get baked in the oven until the cheese is nice and melty.  Always a crowd pleaser.

There is nothing I love more an easy dinner that comes together in minutes and that everyone will eat.  With picky eaters I need all the easy dinners I can find.

These sliders are one of my easy go-to dinners that I can just whip together quickly and I know everyone will enjoy.  Just a few ingredients and a couple minutes and I have a delicious dinner or lunch for everyone. These are also great for parties and get-togethers.  They make a great appetizer, lunch or dinner.  These are always a crowd-pleaser.

These sloppy sliders are perfect all year round. The beef cooks up with peppers and onions and mixed with a delicious sloppy joe sauce. I love that you can customize this to your family’s taste, make it spicy, add your favorite seasonings, change out the cheese, you can totally make this recipe your own. The sloppy joe filling is piled on soft slider buns with cheddar cheese and gets topped with butter and sesame seeds and baked until everything is golden and the cheese is melty.

Can we also take a minute to talk about how budget-friendly this dinner is?  Everyone is feeling the pinch with the grocery bill right now and you can’t get much cheaper than ground beef and a few other ingredients.  So this is a great dinner when you are trying to save a few pennies.

Yes, you can use any ground protein you like.  Ground chicken, ground turkey or ground pork will also work in this.  

What should I serve this with?

I love these with a salad, fries or some mac and cheese but it is also great served with these Slow Cooker Cowboy Beans.

Can I make this spicy?

You can add red pepper flakes, jalapenos, green chiles or even sriracha to give this a kick.

Ingredients used

  • Lean Ground Beef –  I like to use lean ground beef but you can use any ground beef.
  • Red Bell Pepper –  Adds sweetness and color to these sliders.
  • Green Bell Pepper – Adds great flavor to the sliders.
  • Onion – You can use fresh or frozen chopped onion. 
  • Garlic – Just a bit adds a ton of flavor. 
  • BBQ Sauce –  Use your favorite brand.
  • Chili Powder – Adds flavor and color.
  • Brown Sugar – This adds that signature sloppy joe sweetness.
  • Mustard – Adds a bit of tang to the sliders.
  • Worcestershire Sauce –  Gives these a savory flavor.
  • Cheddar Cheese – You can use any cheese you like.
  • Hawaiian Rolls –  I love the sweetness of these rolls with the sloppy joe filling.
  • Butter –  You need this for topping.
  • Sesame seeds – For topping the rolls. Totally optional.

How to make Sloppy Joe Sliders

  1. FULL RECIPE BELOW
  2. In a large skillet over medium high heat add the ground beef, red bell pepper, green bell pepper and onion. 
  3. Cook until the beef is brown and drain off any grease.
  4. To the skillet add the garlic, bbq sauce, chili powder, brown sugar, mustard and worcheshire sauce.
  5. Let everything cook together about 10-15 minutes until slightly thickened. 
  6. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
  7. Slice your hawaiian rolls in half and place 6 slices of cheddar on the bottom and top with the sloppy joe mix. 
  8. Top the sloppy joe mix with the remaining 6 slices of cheese and the tops of the buns. 
  9. Brush the bun tops with the melted butter and sprinkle with a little sesame seeds and parsley.
  10. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
  11. Serve!

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • Half of a small red bell pepper
  • Half of a small green bell pepper
  • Half of a small onion
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 2 cups bbq sauce
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • 1 ½ tablespoons worcestershire sauce
  • 12 slices cheddar cheese
  • 12 count Hawaiian Rolls
  • 2 tablespoons of butter, melted
  • Sesame seeds and parsley for topping

Instructions

Notes

  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • You can add jalapenos to the mix for a kick. 
  • You can use your favorite cheese, pepperjack or provolone would be delicious.
