Crock Pot Candy Chicken

I love my crockpot, it makes busy life with a 2 year old and a husband who has to go to work right after dinner much easier!  I am always looking for crock pot recipes that are not pot roast or some kind of bbq because those get old fast.  So when I saw this recipe I had to try it, I am sucker for anything sweet/savory dishes anyways and the ingredients really intrigued me.

My house smelled amazing while this was cooking, our tummies were growling by dinner time from smelling this cooking all day.  I served it over some rice with some sesame green beans on the side and everyone cleaned their plates.  My picky little sister and mom even had no leftovers.  My toddler was peeking his head over the bar while I was fixing the plates for me to feed him little pieces of the chicken like he was a baby bird.

All in all this is an extremely affordable meal that takes no time to prepare and is a real crowd pleaser!  I could eat this everyday it is that good!

Of note I would not recommend switching out chicken breasts for thighs as the thighs come out sooo tender and are much more flavorful, even if you don’t think you like the thighs, try them in this recipe you will be wowed.  To make it better the thighs are very inexpensive and often at my Target have a 1-2 dollar off coupon right on the package making this dinner even cheaper!


Crock Pot Candy Chicken (adapted from A Year of Slow Cooking)

12 boneless, skinless chicken thighs
1 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup Sprite
2/3 cup vinegar
4 cloves smashed and chopped garlic
3 T soy sauce
1 tsp ground black pepper

Mix all the ingredients together (except for the chicken), pour some of the sauce in the bottom of the crock pot, add the chicken and pour the rest of the sauce on top.

Cook on low for 6-8 hours or high for 4-6 hours.

Serve over fried rice and watch your family clear their plates!

  1. Sounds real good may have to try out that dish in the future. Right now chicken is alot cheaper than beef any day. A couple of weeks ago I made a whole chicken in the crock pot, at .89 a pound and it was at least a 5 lb. chicken.   2. i would love to know how i can get this in larger print it sounds so good and i am anxious to t ry it but have a problem readin g the small print as i have macrodegeneration in the eyes which makes it very difficult to read any help would be appreciate tks….

    1. I can write it up in larger print and email it to you if you would like. Its a great recipe and I would love to help you be able to try it :)

    2. Copy and paste it into a word document and then select all and change the font size may need a little editing to have everything line up but you can choose how big or small you want it and then print it out.

    1. I just use white vinegar or apple cider, either one would work fine, I imagine even a rice wine vinegar would work here :)

    1. Sure you can halve the recipe, and you can also use chicken breasts just be sure to cut the cooking time down a little since the breasts cook faster than thighs.
