When it comes to achieving perfectly baked kielbasa, there are a few key tips to keep in mind. Firstly, make sure to score the kielbasa before baking to allow the flavors to penetrate the meat fully. This simple step can make a big difference in the overall taste of the dish. Additionally, be sure to use a baking dish that is the right size for the amount of kielbasa you are preparing. This will help ensure even cooking and prevent overcrowding, which can lead to uneven results. Lastly, consider adding a bit of water or broth to the baking dish to help keep the kielbasa moist as it cooks.  You can also cook this right in the slow cooker but I would maybe give it a quick broil at the end to make sure it’s good and sticky.  I love how easy this recipe is you only need a few minutes of prep time.

INGREDIENTS

  • Sliced smoked sausage–  I like to use just a regular smoked sausage but feel free to use turkey or chicken sausage too!  Spice it up by using a andouille sausage.
  • BBQ sauce- Use your favorite flavor.  I like to use sweet baby rays honey BBQ sauce but you can use your favorite flavor to switch it up. Try a spicy barbecue sauce for a kick.
  • Brown sugar-  This helps the sausage get nice and caramelized. You could use honey or a bit of maple syrup as well. But for best results I recommend the brown sugar.
  • Minced dried onion- This adds a little oniony flavor but you can also use fresh chopped onion if your prefer. You could always use onion powder if that is what you have on hand too!
  • Red pepper flake-  Adds a little bit of heat to this sausage. You can leave it out or use jalapeños or chili pepper instead.
  • Garlic salt- I like the flavor garlic salt adds but you can use garlic powder, fresh or jarred garlic as well.
  • Dijon mustard-  Mustard adds a little tang in the background of this dish. You can use any mustard you have on hand.
  • Parsley- for garnish
  • You can add a little liquid smoke to give these a nice smoky flavor.
