One Pot Cheesesteak Tortellini

Ingredients used for this one pot pasta

  • Steak- You can use any tender cut of steak you like.
  • Onion- I like to use a sweet onion but you can use a white onion or even a red onion.
  • Green bell peppers- Green peppers are commonly used in cheesesteaks but you can also use red bell peppers or yellow bell peppers.
  • Butter-  Just a little butter is all you need.  You can use unsalted butter or salted butter.
  • Garlic salt- Just to add a little flavor you can also use fresh garlic or garlic powder.
  • Onion powder- For flavor.
  • Milk- I like to use whole milk for this but you can use any milk your family drinks.
  • Frozen cheese tortellini- You can also try this with frozen cheese and spinach ravioli.
  • Mozzarella provolone blend- You can use any italian blend cheese you like. You can also just use mozzarella cheese or just provolone cheese.

Directions for this one pot philly cheesesteak pasta

  1. FULL RECIPE BELOW 
  2. Season your steak with the garlic salt, onion powder and black pepper.
  3. In a large skillet over medium-high heat melt the butter and add in the steak and cook just till it has a little color.
  4. Add the peppers and onions and cook for another 5 minutes.
  5. Pour in the milk and tortellini. 
  6. Bring up to a boil and reduce heat to medium and let everything simmer for 6-8 minutes until the pasta is cooked through. 
  7. Stir in 2 cups of the cheese.
  8. Top with the remaining cheese and cover until the cheese is melted.
  9. Garnish with parsley if desired.
  10. Serve!
  11. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days.

Can I spice this up?

Of course!  Add some chipotle sauce, hot sauce, green chilies, jalapenos or even red pepper flakes to add a kick to this dish. 

What is the best pasta for this one pot pasta recipe?

I love using the cheese tortellini for this but you can also substitute cheese ravioli.  You also could just use any short pasta like penne pasta or rotini pasta if you like.

Can I use any beef?

Of course!  I use just sirloin steak but you can use lean ground beef but, ground turkey, ground chicken, or thinly sliced chicken!

What else can I add to this philly cheesesteak tortellini pasta?

You can add lots of different things to this pasta dish.  Bell peppers or spinach would be a great addition!  Broccoli would also be wonderful in this philly cheesesteak pasta.  You can add any of your favorite veggies to this one pan dinner.

  • 1 pound steak, cut into bite size pieces
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 1 large green bell pepper, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups milk
  • 19 ounces frozen cheese tortellini
  • 2 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella provolone blend

Instructions

  1. Season your steak with the garlic salt, onion powder and black pepper.
  1. In a large skillet over medium high heat melt the butter and add in the steak and cook just till it has a little color.
  2. Add the peppers and onions and cook for another 5 minutes.
  3. Pour in the milk and tortellini. 
  4. Bring up to a boil and reduce heat to medium and let everything simmer for 6-8 minutes until the pasta is cooked through. 
  5. Stir in 2 cups of the cheese.
  6. Top with the remaining cheese and cover until the cheese is melted.
  7. Garnish with parsley if desired.
  8. Serve!

Notes

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
  • You can use shaved steak or even chicken in this dish.
  • If you want the peppers and onions cooked down more cook them before cooking the steak and then proceed with the recipe.
