#JungleFresh Recipes for your Jungle Book Movie Night
The other day we headed out to Walmart as a family to get all the goodies we needed to have an awesome movie night. Disney’s The Jungle Book just came out on Blu-Ray/Combo Pack Diamond Edition and we couldn’t wait to introduce Dean to another of our favorite Disney movies.
Dean spotted the display and we were thrilled to find a combo pack Walmart exclusive offer that came with a free lunch box, so we were all excited about that!
I like to coordinate our movie snacks with whatever movie we are watching. Since The Jungle Book movie has a lot of fruit in it I figured this would be the perfect time to introduce some new fruits and veggies to Dean and tie them into the jungle theme. Since we were at Walmart and they have an amazing produce section we were able to get lot’s of fresh, delicious fruits and vegetables to make our movies snacking spectacular! Dean loved to help pick out all the produce we needed.
The first recipe I made was “Baloo”berry Banana Smoothie Pops. Who doesn’t love the yummy combo of banana and blueberry? Naming it after the lovable Baloo from the movie, I knew these would be a big hit! They are so simple to make and are a delicious frozen treat that no kid can resist!
We have recently discovered that Dean has an intolerance/allergy to popcorn so we cannot have that as a snack for movie nights. As an alternative I made “Kaa”le Chips. They are easy, healthy, chock full of vitamins and satisfies everyone’s salty crunchy cravings. For the movie I served them in little boxes reminiscent of a movie theater popcorn box.
In the movie there are a lot of different fruits, and Dean loves fruit but there are some he hadn’t tried yet. I thought a Tropical Fruit and Yogurt Smoothie would be a great way to try out some of those new fruits. We had them as a dessert with our movie but they would make a great breakfast too! Dean devoured his and has a new found love for kiwi. I loved the toasted coconut topping, it brought just the right amount of crunch.
We all snuggled down on the sofa with our snacks and watched The Jungle Book, Daniel and I were transported back to our childhood watching this classic movie and Dean was introduce to a new favorite movie (he has watched it 3 more times since then lol). While watching the movie I thought it would be fun to have a little I Spy game with some of the animals and fruit in the movie. I made and printed out a little check off sheet and when we would spot the animal or fruit in the movie we would check it off. Dean had a blast looking for the animals and learned the names of some new fruit too!
We had a great movie night full of laughs and yummy snacks. I could not have asked for a better movie night. I can’t wait to plan the next one!!
So head to your Walmart, pick up the Blu-Ray/Combo Pack Diamond Edition release of Disney’s The Jungle Book which will be available for purchase at Walmart on February 11, 2014. Don’t forget Walmart is the only place where you can receive a free Jungle Book Lunch Box with purchase of the Diamond Edition.
Then visit their produce section and fill your cart with tons of fresh fruits and vegetables and have yourself and amazing #JungleFresh movie night too!
