When I was younger I remember we always had this delicious fruit salad all the ladies in my family made. I got older and I learned the secrets to that summer staple fruit salad.
Now I am going to share with you the little secret to really take your fruit salad over the top and turn it into this creamy, dreamy cheesecake fruit salad.
To make this over the top fruit salad you start with your favorite fruits and you can change these up, make it your own and use the fruit your family likes.
For this recipe I used strawberries, bananas, grapes, pineapple, kiwi and mandarin oranges. Now to make that luscious base you need pineapple juice (I use it from the can of pineapple) and you mix that the instant pudding mix and all of that gets whipped together with cream cheese.
This reminds me of a vintage fruit salad, the always had jello or pudding in them! This recipe is great for summer or spring but we eat it all year round.
Now I do like making a big batch of this for my family to snack on all week because it makes the perfect after dinner dessert. But this cheesecake fruit salad was made for entertaining and potlucks or anytime you have a get together.
Every pool party or cookout we’ve ever had this hawaiian fruit salad has made an appearance. And let me tell you there is never any left! It is that good!

Frequently Asked Questions About This Recipe:
Can I use any fruit?
Yes, any fruit will work, as long as it is drained well before adding to the mix. I think mango, peaches, blueberries or raspberries would also be great in this tropical cheesecake fruit salad.
Can I make this ahead of time?
Yes you can make this ahead of time. I will say the longer it sits the higher the chance of it becoming a little watery due to all the fruit and fruit juices.
Ingredients used for this creamy hawaiian fruit salad recipe:
-
Cream cheese- You want to make sure it is softened to room temperature. This will make it easy to mix with the other ingredients.
-
Instant cheesecake or vanilla pudding- I like to use cheesecake pudding for this recipe to really bump up the cheesecake flavor but you can also use vanilla pudding or even lemon pudding!
-
Pineapple juice- I use the juice from the can of pineapple chunks in this recipe, it usually is very close to the 2 cups needed to make the pudding.
-
Strawberries- This is a great recipe to make when your strawberries are getting a little over ripe.
-
Green or red grapes- Use any color grapes you like but I would recommend cutting them in half.
-
Mandarin oranges- Make sure these are drained very well. You can also use fresh mandarin oranges.
-
Pineapple chunks- Again make sure these are drained well but save that juice!!
-
Kiwis- Just peel them and slice them. I like to use the green ones to add a pop of color.
-
Banana- This adds a great flavor to the salad and is a fruit my grandma always added to her fruit salad.
