Yes, you could use any boneless chicken in this recipe, just cut it into strip pieces. But you can also cut your chicken into nugget size.

Ingredients used for these Honey Chipotle Crispers

  • Honey-  Of course you need honey for these Chicken Crispers.  This gives the sauce it’s sweetness and stickiness.
  • Chipotle chiles in adobo sauce- For this recipe you will be using just the sauce, not the peppers, however you can add in some of the peppers if you want it extra spicy. 
  • Ketchup- This helps provide a base for the sauce.
  • Vinegar-  A little acidic kick from the vinegar helps balance everything. 
  • Chicken tenderloins-  I love using tenderloins because they are already in the chicken strip shape but you can use any cut of chicken you prefer.
  • Flour-  Just a little all-purpose flour is all you need.
  • Cornstarch- This helps provide a very crispy chicken tender.
  • Baking powder-  This also helps give the chicken tenders it’s crispiness.
  • Garlic salt- For a little flavor, you can also use garlic powder.
  • Smoked paprika- This adds a little smokiness and a bit of color to the chicken tenders.
  • Milk- You need this for the batter. Whichever milk your family drinks will work fine in this recipe.
  • Light oil- For frying.  I like to use vegetable oil but you can use canola or peanut oil.

How to make these Copycat Chili’s Honey Chipotle Chicken Crispers

  1. FULL RECIPE BELOW
  2. In a shallow dish whisk together the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, garlic salt and smoked paprika.
  3. Lightly dredge the chicken in the flour and set aside.
  4. Next in a shallow dish add the milk and 1 tablespoon of the flour mixture.
  5. Dredge the floured chicken into the milk mixture.
  6. Next dip chicken in the flour again and set aside.
  7. In a large frying pan add your oil and heat over medium-high heat.
  8. Once the oil reaches 350 degrees add your chicken in batches, being careful not to overcrowd the pan.
  9. Fry the chicken tenderloins for 2-3 minutes per side in the hot oil until golden brown.
  10. Set on a plate lined with paper towels or a wire rack to drain off the excess grease.
  11. Meanwhile make your sauce by combining the 3/4 cup honey, chipotle sauce, ketchup and vinegar in a small saucepan.
  12. Heat over medium high heat until it begins to bubble.
  13. Let bubble and simmer for for 5 minutes until thickened.
  14. Toss the chicken strips in the spicy honey chipotle sauce.
  15. Serve!

  • 1/3 cup chipotle chiles in adobo sauce, just the sauce, not the peppers
  • 3 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 2 pounds chicken tenderloins
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 cups light oil for frying
