Can I freeze this?
You can freeze this after cooking. Just pop it in a freezer-safe bag or freezer-safe containers and freeze for up to 3 months.
Can I use any protein?
Yes, you can use any meat you like and it will work with this chili, I do like to use the ground beef for authenticity but you can use ground chicken, turkey or pork, stew beef.
What should I serve this with?
This is a great dish on it’s own but it is really good with a salad or some cornbread on the side. I actually like to serve it with this Classic Corn Casserole. Of course you can always serve it with some fries for dipping or on top of a baked potato.

You can add red pepper flakes or sriracha, add fresh or canned jalapenos to the chili while cooking or top with jalapeno slices before serving to give this a kick.
INGREDIENTS USED IN THIS CROCKPOT COPYCAT WENDY’S CHILI
- Ground beef – I like to use lean ground beef in this recipe, it makes this chili hearty!
- Onion – This adds great flavor to this rich chili.
- Green Bell Pepper- I love using green bell pepper in my chili, it gives it such a great flavor.
- Celery- This one is a little different in chili but I love this addition.
- Tomato paste – Any brand tomato sauce will work. It adds a rich tomato flavor.
- Dark red kidney beans – You can use dark or light kidney beans, whichever you prefer.
- Pinto beans – While Wendys uses pinto beans you could definetly substitue black beans if you like.
- Chili Powder – This adds flavor but not heat so do not worry.
- Ground Cumin – This adds all that chili flavor you are looking for.
- Garlic Powder- You always need a little garlic flavor in chili. You could also add minced garlic if you like.
- Crushed Tomatoes- This makes up the base of the chili.
- Beef Broth- Just helps thin and flavor the chili.
- Toppings – I like to top mine with sour cream, cheddar cheese, scallions, crackers,
green onions or fritos but you can top it with anything you like.
