Can I use any beef?

Yes! I prefer to use stew beef but you can cut up a chuck roast or even a london broil.  You can even use chicken thighs!

Can I add vegetables?

There are many veggies that would be great in this recipe.  Broccoli, carrots, onion, red bell pepper or green bell pepper would all be great.  Snow peas would also be fabulous in this.

Do I have to brown the beef?

You don’t have to but it does add a great deep color to the beef and adds a little flavor.

My sauce is too thin/thick?

If you notice your sauce is too thick before the beef is tender you can add 1/2 cup of water.  If your sauce ends up too thin add a little cornstarch to a little water and stir that in to thicken that sauce right up.

Notes

  • We love this rice but it is also great over ramen noodles.
  • Store the leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • The sauce can burn because of the honey so keep the slow cooker on low.
