  1. If you add a few diced onions, and an optional line of good mustard, you’ve got one of the finest dogs, or burgers in the Carolinas! (Your meat, chili, slaw, onions: usually red or sweeter like Vidalias when in season, and optional mustard constitute a Carolina Style dog or burger.)

In other parts of the country, outside of your area of Virginia, everyone knows the topped dog as a Carolina Style Hot Dog or Carolina Style Burger.

Even Wendy’s, and restaurant chain came out with a Carolina burger twenty years ago. And, Sonic Drive-Ins followed suit with a Carolina Dog. Course, for the real taste explosion, you must add a tall cup of Cheerwine, with the ice that comes in little balls. A hefty sweetened iced tea with a wedge of lemon will also pair nicely.
