The holidays are coming up and everyone is going to be expecting a delicious holiday ham on the table. This year save some money and create this famous Copycat Honey Baked Ham recipe right at home. Spiral ham is coated in butter, dijon and honey before getting a coating of 2 sugars and seasonings. This ham is fall off the bone tender and has that sweet crunchy caramelized sugar shell that everyone loves. This is sure to be the hit of the holidays.
I would make ham on every holiday if I could! I love it that much! I think the Honey Baked Ham Company makes a fabulous ham but who can afford those prices these days? I figured out how to make that tender glazed ham right at home for a fraction of the cost.
With just a few simple ingredients you can create a juicy ham with a sweet honey glaze and sugar crust right at home! Skip the store-bought version and wow your guest with your own honeybaked ham. You could probably make 2-3 of these at home for what one from the store costs.
While making a whole spiral ham may seem difficult it is actually the easiest thing! You just are going to make a honey butter glaze and pour that over your ham, make a brown sugar mixture to crust it with, bake it, add a little more sugar to the outside, bake it for a few more minutes and you have a delicious mouth watering ham that was so easy to make!
I love making ham for the holiday because I love leftover ham I can eat on it for days. I like to use my leftover ham for sandwiches of course but also for my Hot Ham & Swiss Croissants or Slow Cooker Cheesy Potato Ham Soup.

I love this ham just as it is but you can add a few things to it if you prefer.
- You can use any kind of ham you like, bone-in ham, half ham, boneless ham.

Of course! You can use the honey mixture and crispy glaze recipe on any kind of ham! I do like a spiral ham for this recipe but you can use a boneless ham or half ham if you need a smaller ham.
Can I make this in the slow cooker?
Yes!! You can make this in the slow cooker. Just follow the directions the same except place the ham in your slow cooker. Cook on low until it comes to temperature (that will vary on the size of your ham) and then remove the ham, apply the remaining sugar mixture and place into the oven like the directions state for that last couple minutes of cooking to get the sugar crust crispy.

- Unsalted butter- This helps create the glaze for this delicious ham.
- Dijon mustard- Dijon mustard gives a great savory flavor to this sweet ham.
- Onion powder- Also adds a bit of savoriness to the crunchy glaze.
- Paprika- This adds a little color and flavor to the sugar crust.
- Pumpkin spice- The original ham has a variety of spices and they can all be found in pumpkin pie spice so I just use that.
- White sugar- This is what you need for that sugar crust.
- Brown sugar- This also creates the sugar crust for the ham.
- Fully cooked spiral cut ham- I like to use a fully cooked ham but I also make sure I am buying a spiral-cut ham. This recipe will also work on a boneless ham as well.
How to make this copycat honey baked ham recipe:
- Preheat your oven to 325 degrees.
- In a small bowl melt your butter and whisk in the honey and dijon mustard until all combined.
- Place your ham in a large baking dish.
- Coat the ham in the honey butter mixture.
- Next in another bowl combine the onion powder, paprika, pumpkin spice and both sugars.
- Using your hands coat the outside of the ham with about half of the sugar mixture.
- Cover with aluminum foil and place in the oven and bake for about 2 hours or until a meat thermometer reaches an internal temperature of 130 degrees in the thickest part of the ham.
- Remove the ham from the oven and carefully coat the ham with the remaining sugar mixture.
- Turn the oven up to 425 degrees and place the ham back in the oven for 10-15 minutes just until the sugars caramelize a bit.
- Slice and serve!

- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 tablespoon dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 ½ teaspoons pumpkin spice
- ¾ cup white sugar
- ¾ cup brown sugar
- 1 (8-10 pound) fully cooked spiral sliced ham
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 325 degrees.
- In a small bowl melt your butter and whisk in the honey and dijon until all combined.
- Place your ham in a large baking dish.
- Coat the ham in the honey butter mixture.
- Next in another bowl combine the onion powder, paprika, pumpkin spice and both sugars.
