Slow Cooker Dr Pepper Ribs (Easy Crockpot BBQ Ribs Recipe)
These Slow Cooker Dr Pepper Ribs are tender, fall-off-the-bone ribs coated in a sweet, smoky, sticky BBQ glaze. Made right in the crockpot with simple ingredients, they’re the easiest way to get that backyard barbecue flavor without the grill.

There are some dinners that just feel like summer, no matter what time of year you make them, and ribs are definitely one of those for me.
The problem is, I don’t always want to deal with dragging out the grill, watching the temperature, flipping, basting… all of that. Some days I just need something I can throw together in the morning and know it’s going to turn out really good by dinner.
That’s exactly why I started making these Slow Cooker Dr Pepper Ribs.
The first time I made them, it was one of those busy days where dinner needed to be easy, but I still wanted something that felt a little special. I had ribs, a bottle of BBQ sauce, and a Dr Pepper sitting in the fridge, and it just came together from there.
By the time they were done cooking, the whole house smelled like a backyard barbecue.
And when I pulled them out and brushed that thick, sticky glaze on top and gave them a quick broil… it was one of those moments where you just know dinner is going to be good.
There’s always that moment when ribs hit the table where everything gets a little quieter because everyone’s too busy eating. That definitely happened with these. One of the boys grabbed one before I even had them fully plated, and I just remember thinking, “okay yeah, these are staying in the rotation.”
What I love about this recipe is how simple it is. The slow cooker does all the work, the ribs turn out tender every time, and that Dr Pepper BBQ sauce gives them that perfect balance of sweet, smoky, and just a little sticky.
And if you’ve ever wanted that “BBQ ribs at home” feeling without the extra work, this is it.
What Are Dr Pepper Ribs?
Dr Pepper Ribs are slow-cooked pork ribs that simmer in a sweet and savory sauce made with BBQ sauce, soda, and spices. The Dr Pepper adds a subtle sweetness and helps tenderize the meat as it cooks.
After slow cooking, the ribs are brushed with a thickened glaze and finished under the broiler for that classic caramelized BBQ finish.
They’re a simple, no-grill way to make tender, flavorful ribs at home.

FAQs
Can I use a different type of ribs for this recipe?
Yes, you can use spare ribs, St. Louis-style ribs, or even boneless ribs. Just keep in mind that thicker cuts like spare ribs may need a little extra cooking time to become fully tender. The method stays the same, but always check that the meat is easily pulling apart before finishing.
Do I have to use Dr Pepper, or can I substitute another soda?
You can absolutely substitute another soda if needed. Coke, root beer, or even a cherry cola will work well in this recipe. Each one will give a slightly different flavor, but Dr Pepper has a unique blend of sweetness and spice that really makes these ribs stand out.
How do I know when the ribs are done in the slow cooker?
The ribs are done when they are very tender and the meat easily pulls away from the bone. You should be able to insert a fork and twist gently, and the meat will start to separate. If they still feel firm, they need more time.
Can I make these ribs ahead of time?
Yes, these ribs can be made ahead of time and reheated. You can cook them fully, store them in the fridge, then reheat and broil with fresh sauce before serving. This actually works great if you’re preparing for a party or gathering.
Why do you broil the ribs at the end?
Broiling helps caramelize the sauce and gives the ribs that classic sticky, slightly crispy finish you get from grilled ribs. Without this step, they’ll still taste great, but you’ll miss that extra layer of texture.
