Hey yall!! I am so excited that the air has gotten colder and the radio has started to play holiday music! I love the holidays they are just so special and magical. I love all the traditions and especially the holiday baking!
Dean is now old enough to really help decorate some cookies and help in the kitchen so I really want to build some holiday memories with him.
While shopping at Walmart the other I spotted Honey Maid graham crackers and knew we had to go home and make graham cracker houses! I also grabbed some Skippy Peanut Butter as a delicious glue for our houses because there is nothing more sticky or delicious than peanut butter!
I love making graham cracker houses, they are so easy and so much fun! We tried traditional gingerbread houses but baking and cooling made for some very impatient kids and the kits just weren’t very tasty. I love these graham cracker house alternatives because you get to decorate your house without all the waiting, the decorating is everyone’s favorite part (well maybe aside from snacking on all the candy decorations lol).
So I knew this would be the perfect blustery day activity to do with Dean. I got out the Honey Maid Graham Crackers and the Skippy Peanut Butter, then away we went.
We decided on a cookie train, all ready to deliver candy. Construction was easy with the peanut butter acting as an amazing glue! I put the peanut butter into a ziploc bag and snipped off the end to use as a piping bag for our peanut butter glue. Then I went to town, I made a square for the engine, added a little smoke stack perfect for billowy marshmallow “steam”. Then I just continued gluing graham crackers together to form each car. After I got the train together I let him have at it with candy canes and chocolate candies, whatever he wanted. I finished the train off by filling the cars with peppermint sticks, gumdrops and chocolate coal. A flurry of shredded coconut added holiday cheer. He had a blast and I loved watching the joy in his eyes, watching the holiday excitement grow and Christmas memories made.
Once Dean and his train were both sufficiently covered in peanut butter and candy our cookie train was done. He was so proud of his graham cracker train he had to show everyone! I know this will be a tradition we do every year and I will be taking a picture of his graham cracker houses/trains each year so we can see how they change and how much he has grown from Christmas to Christmas.
After he was washed and off to gaze lovingly at his sweet little train by the light of the tree I was left with quite a bit of peanut butter, graham crackers and marshmallows left and I knew just want to do with them. Fluffernutter Pie!!
The combination of peanut butter, marshmallow and graham is a perfect trifecta of flavor and I knew they would marry along perfectly in this simple pie.
A base of cream cheese, peanut butter, marshmallow cream and whipped topping start this pie off the right way. It is then poured into a graham cracker crust before being topped with a thousand little mini marshmallows and then tucked away in the freezer until set. A little drizzle of melted peanut butter completes this heavenly pie.
Fluffernutter Pie
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups of crushed Honey Maid Graham Crackers
- 1/4 brown sugar
- 7 tablespoons melted butter
- 1 8 oz block softened cream cheese
- 1 8 oz container Cool Whip
- 1 7 oz container marshmallow fluff
- 1 cup creamy Skippy Peanut Butter
- Mini marshmallows
- Skippy Peanut Butter for drizzling
Instructions
- Mix the first 3 ingredients together to make the crust.
- Press into a pie pan and bake at 350 for 10 minutes. You can skip the baking altogether if you like and continue on with the pie making.
- In a blender combine the cream cheese, marshmallow fluff and peanut butter. Then add in the Cool Whip.
- Pour into the pie crust and smooth top.
- Top with mini marshmallows and pop into freezer for at least 4 hours.
- Drizzle with a little warmed peanut butter and serve!!!
- Freeze leftovers.
Though it is a little different than your normal holiday pie I believe it will be a welcome change of pace from all the pumpkin and chocolate that the holidays usually bring in.
