Haluski

This is a recipe I stumbled upon while watching food network. The addition of the chicken is mine but the Haluski alone is a great side dish for any meal. My pickiest eaters always ask for seconds of this dish!
Garlic Chicken with Haluski
- 3 pounds Chicken Breasts cut into bite size piece
- 1 Pound of Bacon chopped
- 1 Large Onion sliced thin
- 1 Head of Cabbage sliced thin
- 2 Bags of Egg Noodles
- Garlic Salt
- Peanut Oil
In large pan crisp bacon and remove from pan.
Discard fat leaving 2 T of bacon grease in the pan. Add the onion and cabbage to pan and sauté until caramelized.
Season chicken with garlic salt and in batches brown in large pan with peanut oil, until all sides are brown.
Boil and drain egg noodles and season with butter and pepper and add in the cabbage, bacon and onions and combine.
Serve the chicken mixed in, on the side or on top.
This casserole is one of my cormoft foods but I’ve never thought about putting bacon in it. Thanks for doubling the fat content of one of my faves because now you KNOW I’m going to add the stuff! :)
How many ounces are your bags of egg noodles? Are you using the big 16 oz ones?
Yup that’s the one!
Looks great, I will have to try this out. As for the Chicken I would probably use whole cleaned Chicken Thighs added to the recipe. This sounds like a Polish recipe too.
There was one on Facebook. My son made it and it was delicious…..
I’ve also made this using leftover ham
Does the cabbage not get cooked?
It gets cooked along with everything else, it doesnt take too much time to get tender
Great recipe. Haluski is a Polish dish, however.
Since I’m part German, I want to try this recipe. It sounds delicious, and looks really good
