I love making sweet treats for the holidays, especially Christmas.  I really like making easy, festive treats that you can give as gifts or set out on a Christmas dessert platter, and this Christmas Crack Candy is perfect.

This candy is also called Christmas Ritz Candy or Christmas Cracker Candy or even Toffee Candy.  Basically, this candy is a base of crackers, a layer of a homemade caramel/toffee mixture, and then a topping of chocolate.

A lot of recipes call for saltines as the base layer and they work great in this recipe but I love the buttery flavor of Ritz crackers and I prefer to use them, it just makes this recipe even more delicious!

The toffee or caramel layer is a cinch to make and you do not even need a candy thermometer, which I love!  Butter, sugar, and vanilla come together to create this luscious layer and is spread over the crackers.

The chocolate on top is usually a semisweet or milk chocolate but for this holiday version I like to use a white chocolate so I can swirl in some red and green candy melts to make a truly gorgeous candy.

So this holiday season makes this Christmas Crack Candy and I promise everyone will love it!

Now I like to just top this with a few Christmas sprinkles but it is also so delicious topped with chopped pecans, almonds or walnuts.

This Christmas Crack Candy is so easy to make, it makes a ton and is perfect for giving out as gifts for the holidays.  This candy looks gorgeous packed into holiday tins, Christmas boxes and even mason jars topped with a little bow.

This candy is also really pretty on a dessert tray or piled up on a plate waiting for your guests to grab a piece.

Can I use other crackers?

Yup!  While I prefer the Ritz crackers you can use saltines, club crackers, and even graham crackers.  As long as they are a mild flavored cracker you can use your favorite.

What is the best chocolate to use?

You can use semisweet or milk chocolate chips.  White chocolate chips or almond bark also works beautifully and allows you to decorate more.  You can also mix your chocolate and do a semisweet layer with white swirled in.  Any of the colored candy melts also works great.

What else can I top the candy with?

Traditionally chopped, toasted nuts are used and is really yummy.  Sprinkles are also perfect on top of this.  You can also think outside the box and crumble up cookies, crumble up graham crackers, chopped peanut butter cups would be amazing!

How long does this stay fresh?

This candy stays fresh in an airtight container for a week.  You can even freeze it for up to 3 months.

  • Ritz crackers – I like to use Ritz because they are buttery but you can use saltines, townhouse, even pretzels.
  • Butter – I like to use salted butter but you can use unsalted if you prefer.
  • Sugar – This creates the toffee layer.
  • Vanilla – Just adds a bit of sweet flavor.
  • Vanilla almond bark – You can also use white candy melts or white chocolate chips.
  • Red and green candy melts – I find these right at my Walmart or craft store.
