Hey guys!! Mother’s Day is coming up and I have a lot of special ladies in my life who deserve a great Mother’s Day.
While I don’t think I can top my present to my grandma last year when I told her I was pregnant with her second great grandbaby, this year’s gift will certainly be delicious!
My grandma and I are very close, I see her everyday, she helps me out with my crazy boys, makes me custom curtains, grabs me anything I forgot at the store, she helps so much.
She is where I got my love of cooking, I am pretty sure my grandma and I could go on and on about recipes and what we are planning for dinner, and the latest episode of The Pioneer Woman. I have so many family recipes from her, my mom, lots of family recipes.
My mom is known for her pasta salad and lumpia, and my grandma is known for her fried chicken and chicken and dumplings. So I thought this year I would drag up and old recipe we haven’t made in years and give it to them for Mother’s Day.
My little sister comes over everyday (she lives next door) and everyday I try to cook something with her, to pass down these family recipes
(sometimes it’s just a mess teaching her lol).
I got her to help me make a special treat for all of our favorite ladies!
Every woman in my life has helped me in some way become the woman I am today and continue to help shape and influence who I am. That of course definitely deserves a sweet treat!
When I was at Walmart doing my weekly shopping and grabbing Cheerios™ for my yummy Mother’s Day snack I noticed it said “Buy a Box, Give Free a Box”. How perfect?!?
I could buy a box that I need for my recipe and give one to one of the girls so they can recreate the recipe at home!!
It could not be easier to give a box of Cheerios™ to someone special. You just head to Walmart, pick up your box and then redeem your code online and voila your special someone will get a coupon for a free box of delicious Cheerios™!
Soo what is that family recipe that I will be giving to all my girls on Mother’s Day? Caramel Nut Cheerios™ Mix. This is a quick little yummy snack you can whip up in no time. It makes a good amount which is why it is perfect for gift giving.
I can remember my grandma making this around the holidays and it was always so buttery and crunchy and so good. It has been years since we have had it so I know it will bring a smile to everyone’s face!
You just start with some butter, it’s an old recipe and those always start with butter lol. Then you get some dark corn syrup and brown sugar. You just want to bring that to a bubble in a pot.
Then pour it over your Cheerios™ and almonds. Now here is where you can change it up, you can add any nuts or mix of nuts you like. I am going traditional old school and using almonds like we always did.
Then you mix it up real good and pour out onto a baking sheet (preferably lined with non-stick foil)
Bake it at 300 for 30 minutes giving it a few stirs while baking. Next you pull it out and let it cool.
Package it it up in cute little mason jars and you are good to go!
Nostalgia in a jar!
- 1/2 cup dark corn syrup
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup butter
- Pinch of salt
- 6 cups Cheerios™
- 1 cup slivered almonds
- In a pot melt together the corn syrup, brown sugar, butter and salt.
- Bring to a bubble.
- In a large bowl mix the cereal and nuts.
- Pour the sugar mixture into the cereal.
- Stir to combine.
- Pour onto greased cookie sheet or one lined with non-stick foil.
- Bake at 300 for 30 minutes, stirring about twice.
- Remove from oven, let cool.
- Break into pieces and serve!!
I know my girls are going to be happy to see these family favorite on Mother’s Day and I hope you make it for the special women in your life.
