Slaw Dogs
Hey guys!! The days are getting longer, the weather is getting hotter and if you open your door on any evening you can smell the grills all around the neighborhood heating up to grill up some spectacular meals!
We make it a tradition to grill out every Friday night while the boys run around the front yard chasing lighting bugs. Their grilled dinner of choice is always hot dogs. Now here in Virginia we love Slaw Dogs. These are hot dogs topped with pulled pork (or chili) and coleslaw, yum!!
There is nothing I love more an easy dinner that doesn’t really heat up my kitchen.
I love that this is a dinner that even my picky kids like, everybody loves hot dogs (mine do skip the coleslaw and pork but hey were all kinda eating the same dinner lol) Whenever I find a dinner that everyone in my house eats I get excited! And for it to be ready in minutes. That’s a double score!
I love that you can customize this to your family’s taste, add some hot sauce or chili, whatever other toppings your family likes.
Can we also take a minute to talk about how budget-friendly this dinner is? Everyone is feeling the pinch with the grocery bill right now and you can’t get much cheaper than hot dogs! So this is a great dinner when you are trying to save a few pennies.
Next time you want a family-friendly dinner everyone will love just make these hot dogs and be in and out of the kitchen in minutes!

If you add a few diced onions, and an optional line of good mustard, you’ve got one of the finest dogs, or burgers in the Carolinas! (Your meat, chili, slaw, onions: usually red or sweeter like Vidalias when in season, and optional mustard constitute a Carolina Style dog or burger.)
In other parts of the country, outside of your area of Virginia, everyone knows the topped dog as a Carolina Style Hot Dog or Carolina Style Burger.
Even Wendy’s, and restaurant chain came out with a Carolina burger twenty years ago. And, Sonic Drive-Ins followed suit with a Carolina Dog. Course, for the real taste explosion, you must add a tall cup of Cheerwine, with the ice that comes in little balls. A hefty sweetened iced tea with a wedge of lemon will also pair nicely.
Oh my goodness a Cheerwine with the little ice is my favorite!!! I get them from Cookout!
