Facts Up Front with the Grocery Manufacturers Association

As a mom making healthful informed choices for my family is a priority. One important place to do that is at the grocery store. I am an avid label reader and could spend hours in the grocery store pouring over ingredients and nutrition facts. However, with a 4-year-old in tow that is not going to happen.
Dean for the most part behaves in the grocery store as long as we spend no longer than 5 minutes in a spot, then he starts to wander or throw all sorts of things in the basket. Not just cookies and candies, anything within arms reach is going in the basket, spicy sardines anyone?
(He’s smiling because he thinks he’s going to get away with all those chips! I don’t think so mister!)
So given my limited time to read nutrition facts I love the Grocery Manufacturers Association new Facts Up Front initiative. With a quick glance to the front of the packaging I can get all the nutrition information I need before Dean makes it to the end of the aisle without me.
Facts like calories per serving and information on three nutrients to limit in the diet: saturated fat, sodium and sugar are right on the front of the package where you can easily see them.
This is a great way to make informed decisions about what food you are buying without having to search the back of a package or pull out your glasses to read tiny print.
The Facts Up Front initiative is already in stores and a quick peek in your pantry will probably reveal some products you already have are labeled with the Facts Up Front.
As I browse the aisle of my store I see more and more Facts Up Front and I love it! So keep your eye out next time you are shopping!

This is great.. however, I really wish they would be “May contain milk, nuts, soy, wheat” in the front too… And some labels.. even if that sentence is listed in the back of the box, then it doesn’t specify all of the allergens.
My son has an issue with soy, makes shopping and label reading more of a sport.. than shopping trip.
